This website is intended as a quick, end-of-semester report on a project intended to introduce this technology to myself and my students. However, I do think the potential here for pedagogy and research is very great. On the pedagogical side, for the 3003 Virgil class next fall I will ask the students to design and decorate their own imperial forum, using appropriate mosaics, frescoes, and scuptural groups (the sculpture should be a challenge...maybe very low relief...). The decorate motifs will be drawn as much as possible from the Aeneid. On the research side, I am exploring the use of 3D computer modeling software to better help us understand how decoration, space, and social ritual worked together in the Roman house. I certainly hope to revisit the house design assignment in future Ovid classes. Progress on these projects will be detailed in upcoming websites at classics.uark.edu Thanks for visiting, and a special thanks again to the Center for Advanced Spatial Technology (CAST) at the University of Arkansas for their assistance with software and training. |
